Site
Located within the Lee Roy Selmon Athletics Center at the University of South Florida in Tampa, the existing football locker room was an outdated facility lacking the amenities and visual identity expected of a competitive collegiate athletics program.
Program Challenge
Transform the existing 5,842-square-foot locker room into a high-performance environment that reflects the football program's evolving identity, enhances the student-athlete experience, and strengthens recruitment efforts. The renovation required extensive integration of new building systems within a constrained existing structure, with construction completed on an accelerated schedule between spring and fall practices.
Solution
The renovation completely reimagines the football locker room as a dynamic, player-centered environment that reflects the program's renewed identity and aspirations. Bold graphics, contemporary finishes, and color-changing LED lighting reinforce the team's branding while creating an energetic setting for student-athletes and prospective recruits.
Custom-designed lockers incorporate integrated power, ventilation, and personal storage, addressing both the functional and experiential needs of players. A new lounge provides spaces for relaxation, gaming, and social interaction, complemented by a dedicated nutrition station, upgraded recovery amenities, digital displays, and modernized restrooms.
Behind the transformation, significant architectural and engineering coordination was required to integrate new systems within the existing building. A substantially upgraded mechanical system provides dedicated exhaust ventilation for individual lockers, while careful planning accommodated the constraints of the existing concrete structure and tilt-panel exterior walls.
Through detailed coordination and documentation, the design team minimized unforeseen construction conflicts and facilitated an expedited construction schedule. The result is a dramatic reinvention of the facility—one that seamlessly integrates with the existing building while establishing a bold new identity for USF Football.
